Valentine' Day 2025
Struggling for time / money / ideas?

Here are some of ours that won't break the bank, or the brain cells.

Love is all around
Valentine's Day, some may say that this is an American custom that urges us to spend additional money just to say the same three words you probably say everyday, while of course, others may say that they thoroughly enjoy an additional chance to showcase their truly special person in a different way each year.

Some may fall for the 'Don't get me anything, it's ok' when others defy such a remark, and plan a splendid day or evening totally unbeknown to your partner.

Some like a fuss, some absolutely do not. One thing that we have noticed over the last few years, is that less is definitely more, which is why, we have taken our time to think about what would make our Valentine's Day that little bit special - and they're not overly expensive either.

1. A stroll around the wonderful Dyrham Park on the outskirts of Bath. Shy of the A46, the park is host to acres of beautiful parkland and their own herd of deer. Enjoy the walks and warm in the coffee shop.

2. Castle Combe has hosted many a film set with beautiful village that hosts The Manor House Hotel, The Castle Inn, and the iconic monument in the heart, which you might recognise if you have watched War Horse. It is definitely worth a visit, so too is the Castle Inn, who have recently been named in the top 100 pubs in the UK by Estrella.

3. Lacock, nr Chippenham equally has hosted many film sets, with their Abbey playing an integral part in Harry Potter, along with Church Street. Similarly, the timely village has hosted others such as the White Princess which saw Jodie Comer take a perfect role as Elizabeth of York. Visit the beautiful Sign of the Angel for supper and you won't be disappointed.

4. Thoulstone Park between Frome & Westbury is emphatic. With views for as far as you can see, a beautiful place for peace, quiet & fantastic light bites. Not only can you enjoy their 50+ acres of woodland, but there is scope for some wedding planning, or even the perfect place for that proposal, if this year is your year.

5. Bath; the City of Bath is sublime, this Roman city hosts the amazing Bath Abbey, plus gracious hotels such as the Royal Crescent & the Gainsborough. It plays hosts to the mesmerising weir which can be viewed from the top of Pulteney Bridge, before getting lost in their back alleys of wonderful independent shops with everything and anything within.

6. Not far from Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey is the Square Grill. This exquisite Italian restaurant, is one where you will experience greatness and you'll truly enjoy yourselves from the moment you enter. The food, service & ambience will definitely be a winner.

7. Nominated into two categories this year for the Trencherman's Awards, is the impressive Iford Manor. Nestled on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon, this hamlet that is home to the Manor, will give you a reason to return again and again. Whether it's the impressive kitchen garden within the walls, or the simplistic yet sophisticated service you get within the restaurant, Iford holds something for everyone.

8. Bruton, Somerset is home to some fantastic eateries. Whether is the Roth Bar & Grill, At The Chapel or OSIP, you will certainly not be disappointed. OSIP is relatively new, boasting highly innovative cookery in a gorgeous setting. At The Chapel in the centre of the town, is fantastic, you can Eat, Drink & Stay. It hosts an Artisan bakery, wine store and is in the Top 50 Boutique Hotels.

9. Bradford on Avon, on the very edge of the Cotswolds, is picturesque at any time of the year. Take a stroll through the Shambles, through Tory, along the River Avon, and back along the Kennet & Avon Canal. With a multitude of pubs, coffee shops & everything in between, Bradford on Avon is (and I quote an old school friend) 'the place where dreams come true'.

10. The comfort of your own home. You don't have to have spent megabucks on a day out, followed by an extravagant meal. Company and connection is the most important thing on Valentine's Day. Enjoy each others time and company. Take time to remember how grateful you are for each other, one of you grab a film, one of you grab the takeaway menu, and both of you decide on a bottle. Pull that blanket over and enjoy yourselves in the beauty that is your own space.
