Bishops Cannings Vets VS Intel Vets FC

A cold but very still night saw the mighty orange of Bishops Cannings vets host at Green lane.
Captain Leigh Blanchard winning the toss saw them kick off, attacking the hospital end. Bishops also welcomed back goalkeeper Steve Coombes after a period of injury in a previous cup round.

Bishops had the first attempt on goal, it’s hit straight at the keeper but he spilt, fortunately for the Intel side, it fell to a defender before Bishops could follow up.
A good element of possession from Bishops dominated a lot of the first half, although an ambitious shot from the visitors goes well wide, and Bishops were able to regain their momentum, and saw them straight back into applying the pressure meaning that Intel struggling to get out of their own half at the moment.

Full Back Alex from muscled his way through the centre of the park and fired a shot from 25 yards which goes just wide. Unfortunate, but good effort.
Intel tried to gather momentum along the left side but just couldn’t capitalise keep and it turned to a bit of kick and hope for both teams in the middle.
Intel couldn’t make light work of anything after gaining a sloppy free kick from the bishops RB. It’s switched to the far side and out of play.
A very late challenge brings the play back to
Bishops to take a free kick but can’t seem to capitalise, and then lose the ball after a shocking refereeing decision to allow play to continue which saw Bew hit the deck.
Bishops appear to be slightly shaken with a few misplaced and reckless passes sees them lose the ball often.
An advantage spoilt shows a free kick resulting in A very long range effort from Mynu at 35 yards out from Bishops gave the Intel keeper little to do and was safely collected.

A very messy attempt at clearing the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box saw Bishops concede a free kick but it’s straight into a safe pair of hands.
A curling effort from Bew saw it inch past the wrong side of the post just before half time. But Intel then counter but are forced back beautifully.
Intel got the second half underway and it continued much the way it ended in the first half. Bishop on top with majority of the possession and increasing their pressure in the opponents half.
A sloppy pass saw Intel break extremely quickly down the right, cross into the middle but couldn't convert and the slight attempt goes well wide.
A second attempt again down the right see them run the ball straight into the diving hands of Steve Coombe’s in goal.
This changed the dynamic of the game and it’s gone end to end. Bishops seemed to be enduring the momentum of their opposition now and the pressure was definitely building. Bishops hold their heads and recomposed themselves.

A brave keeper made good a poor pass to his centre back and Bishops came away with the ball after winning it in the air.
A Bishops attack down the left sees a misplaced cross go behind for a goalkick.
Referee Peter Darby misses another blatant foul on the Bishops team and gives a free kick against the Orange. Luckily the free kick in the final third comes to nothing.
A fantastic save saw Bishop stay in the game despite referee appearing to get extremely whistle happy in the visitors favour. Bishops break away into the oppositions half but lose it when it matters.
A genuine slip by a Bishops player brought down Intel player at the halfway which results in a free kick.
Dave makes way for Craig as he seems to be holding an injury after a missed knock - this however turned into a “I don’t know, was there Jeff?” moment as confusion over who to replaced was had briefly.
Goal line clearance from Intel keeps it at 0-0 with 8 mins to play.
Nick came on at the end of the second half to see out the goalless draw after Coley took a knock to his calf.
The whistle went and it ended; 0-0

To penalties we went.
After Bishops Cannings Football Club had one wide and Intel saved, after 3 penalties each the score was 2-2.
​
Perhaps the evening got the better of Bishops, as one more was saved, by a the Intel Keeper, which leaves Intel to sure up their kicks, this is done very well and Intel put their next two past the keeper and ended the shoot out on 2-4.
​
Bishops unfortunately bow out of the cup after a very hard fought game. The Bishops side can take enormous pride in getting to a semi final in their first season as a team.
​
They look to bounce back on Tuesday night when they are again at home, but this time in the league hosting Chippenham Town.
